About the venue:
Come capture the spirit of Africa at Cradle Moon, only a 35-minute drive from both Sandton and Pretoria. Cradle Moon is a highly rated destination surrounded by African bushveld, in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage site.
The property is on the banks of Lake Heritage and forms part of the Cradle Moon Conservancy. Nestled at the foot of the Swartkop Mountain Range, Lake Heritage is a thriving ecosystem that boasts a variety of bird and aquatic life as well as a family of hippo. The dam wall is the largest man-made dam wall in South Africa.
Cradle Moon is the perfect place to recharge your body, mind, and soul. Set on 75 hectares.
It is also a bird-lovers paradise and together with the Urban Raptor Foundation, a professional breeding platform was built for our resident African Fish Eagles, who have successfully bread young. As well as the many Malachite Kingfishers.
Cradle Moon is one of a few properties surrounding Lake Heritage, that makes up The Cradle Moon Conservancy. The Cradle Moon Conservancy will include the dropping of fences between all surrounding properties that have embraced the project, creating a 1500-hectare reserve. Various additional wild animals will be introduced, making game driving in the heart of the cradle, just one of the many new activities we will be offering you when you visit Cradle Moon.
Routes
4 Routes to choose from:
42Km
The 42km Marathon distance is not for the faint-hearted. It's technical and challenging which makes this distance a perfect final training run for runners who are training for the Sky Run 2019. The route features technical climbs and steeply descends, Forrest sections and beautiful open savannah stretches.
23.4Km
The race features extra river frontage, multiple forests and rocky sections. The route winds away from the lake in the direction of Beyers Naude Drive, before heading back down to the new “Spookhuis” section.
11.9Km
Fast-flowing tracks early into the route serve as the perfect way to get the blood pumping. This is the base route around the lodge with the best views of the cradle of humankind. Look out for Giraffe and zebra on the trail.
6Km
Non-Technical being for those who want an easier run. This is the perfect outing for the entire family to enjoy without having to break a sweat.
